Bitter For Sweet
Sec XVIII
(Split POV)
<Brendon's POV>>
Pete had pulled Spence,Julie and me out of Spence's room, refusing to tell us more than ''the Havok requested our presence in the hall". We had all been watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and eating Oreos and popcorn before he had pulled us out. I was nervous, not really knowing what to expect.
Pete led us through the hallway, where DxH and the other Dark Beings were already waiting.
"What is this about?" I whispered, tapping Pete lightly on the shoulder. He just ignored me and walked away, off into another direction. I followed him. All the vampires were gathered up in a little group in the hall.
"Where is Sophia?" The Havok asked, the impatience clear in his voice. DXH looked really angry, his thin lips in a firm line. Uh-oh. Something was definitely wrong.
"I-I don't know,"Ryan answered. "She was suppose to--"
"Well,look for her,"he demanded bitterly.
"Yessir,"Ryan answered, heading off down the elevator.
A few minutes of silence passed, and I was sure no one but Pete and DXH knew what this was about. I was confused. I could tell that having to wait for Sophia(for what reason I do not know) had only made Davey's anger(towards what?) grow. He was balling his hands into fists so tight, the knuckles were turning white, whiter than his skin, and that's saying something. A few minutes later, Ryry arrived with Sophia, and I could tell that she didn't know anything about this, either. The Havok looked a bit relieved that she had finally come, I could tell because he had stopped making fists, but the angry expression on his face still remained. Soon he was marching away from us down the hall.
I realized that everyone had also started walking, following DxH who was leading them towards my dorm room. Why there?I wondered, but didn't ask. Right now was not the time for questions, I knew. I fell into step with them, not knowing what else to do.
As we approached the dorm, Davey quickened his pace. The faster he walked, the angrier he seemed to get. Suddenly berth pushed through my skinny frame, and was at DxH's side. "Davey, please call down. Don't do something that will get us in trouble!" she urged, struggling to keep up with his long, graceful strides.
The Havok turned to her, coming to a sudden halt. We almost stumbled into each other. His eyes were dark and cold. In a loud, booming voice he said:
"Like what,Bethany? Something that will expose us?"He snorted. "Don't worry, Jade has already done that for us. Twice."
She shot him a wounded look. "But Davey--"
He glared at her. "Don't you dare stall for him,"He cut her off sharply. With that, The Havok continued to move forward once more, moving gracefully and purposefully.
He swung open the door to my dorm rather aggressively, revealing Jade and Addie sitting together at the end of a bed. Jade looked alarmed and rose to his feet, but she stayed seated. Both of their confused faces told me that they, too, hadn't been notified of what was taking place beforehand. Davey strode forward, meeting Jade face-to-face. He of course, had to stare down a bit at Jade, being a few inches taller than him. I bet he felt even more superior. Was this some sort of confrontation? I couldn't come up with any possible reasons for the Havok to be this angry at Jade, except fro being with Adelaide, but I didn't think he would've gotten this upset. Would he?
"So,Puget,"DXH spat out, "This is what you're jeopardizing my coven for?" He motioned toward Addie.
"What do you mean?"Jade queried.
"DO not act dumb with me,Puget. I am aware of what you have done for this, this Human." Dave's last word dripped with clear disgust. " You've told her what we are, you've revealed our secret, the secret of us being Dark Beings. You've exposed us,Puget. Are you mad?Do you even understand what you are doing? Are you aware that you are not only jeopardizing your own life, but also the lives of all of us?"
Jade stayed quiet for a long moment, then answered,"Yes,I am.I am aware. But it's not like that. Addie wouldn't ever hurt us."
The Havok looked amused. "How can you possibly believe that?! How can you trust Humans? How is a human not going to take action against the people who suck the blood from their very veins? The people who survive off of their blood? Who 'victimize', a least in human eyes, the human race?!"Davey let out a thundering laugh, one that seemed like it could have been belted out by the Devil himself. "I thought that you had learned by now that Humans are not trustworthy. Do you recall how Lazzara's coven came to an end,Puget? Their human lovers turned against them once they knew what they really were. They murdered them, all of them, even the children who had nothing to do with the adults' mistake. It was the worst Dark Being slaughter of all time. And do you know why they revealed themselves,Puget? Because they all assumed what you have assumed today:that their lovers would never let any danger befall them, that hey would still love them despite what they were. They were fools. DO you want us to suffer the same fate?"
"That was half a century ago,"Jade pointed out.
" And do you think that over the course of 50 years human nature will change? That they will not react similarly to those before them? If you do, you are a foolish, ignorant person." Davey countered. "Too blinded by this idea of this supposed 'love' to realize the damage and danger you are putting us all in. This isn't the first mistake you have made, Puget."
Everyone was silent for a moment, and it seemed that they had all stopped breathing, too. The tension was high between the two Dark Beings, so thick, I felt it was almost suffocating me. They stared each other down, their eyes burning with such intensity, I was afraid and all-out fight would break out. That was what I most feared. If a fight did happen, surely Davey would be the last one standing. Every passing moment, I sensed that Davey's anger was getting harder and harder to control.
"Please, Davey--" Addie finally broke the silence. "I promise you that I--"
"You will NOT address me as 'Davey'." he cut her off sharply. "You will address me as the Havok, or you will not address me at all."
"Mr. Havok, sir" she started again, hesitantly. "I promise you that your secret is safe with me. i won't tell another soul. I don't want to put any of you in danger."
Davey stared at her, as of making sure she was being sincere. Finally, he said:
"The damage has been done and it is beyond our control. We can only hope that you dare not break this promise, or I assure you that there will be grave consequences if you do not follow through. I am sure that you already know what we will do." He smirked evilly, frightening her further. She winced at his threat. Horrible thoughts were probably playing in her head right now, all the possibilities...
he turned to Jade. "And Puget, you must make sure that she does as she has told us, or if not..." he trailed off as in thought."If not I will drain her of all her blood,. He delicious blood." he licked his thin lips for emphasis, as if already savoring the taste, flashing a pair of sharp white fangs.
"I have quite the thirst for it since I haven't drunk it in so long.I will do it in front of your very eyes, and you will know that you are at fault for what has happened to your lover...your human."
Jade's eyes grew wide with fear and he gulped. Addie whimpered softly. "You wouldn't dare," he whispered softly.
Davey's smile was menacing. "Oh, you don't know what I'm capable of." the Havok stared back and forth between the two lovers, who both sported frightened expressions. He smiled, looking satisfied.
I grimaced. Davey's threat was to be feared. He would stay true to his word. He always did.
with that he spun on his heels with great eloquence and walked out of the room, all the Dark Beings obliging the silent command to follow.
